Psychotherapy for Perinatal Mental Health in NC and VA

Psychotherapy is an integral part of maternal mental health care.  By integrating multiple modalities (including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and person-centered care) based on the individual client's needs, clients are better able to understand and manage their own emotional, relational, and behavioral challenges.

Client's work closely with their provider to set the priorities, goals, and strategies of treatment.

When needed, trauma-focused modalities are incorporated with evidence-based brainspotting.

Client's are also encouraged and welcome to schedule anticipatory sessions to prepare and strengthen skills during the preconception period and beyond.  These services are offered through a maternal mental health telehealth platform for clients in NC and VA.

The most important determinant of maternal and fetal well-being is the mother's mental health.  While medications are ideally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, this is not always possible or advisable.  Utilizing advanced psychopharmacology training, I prescribe patient medications with careful consideration of safety, efficacy, and tolerability for mom and baby.  Medication appointments can be done with or separately from psychotherapy and are available to moms experience postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, insomnia, and other perintal mental health conditions in North Carolina and Virginia.

The greatest risk for MOM AND BABY is for the mom to suffer from untreated mental illness.

The care you need with safety for you and your baby.

Brainspotting for Clients in North Carolina and Virginia

Brainspotting is a patient-led, focused, mindfulness technique that allows the brain to heal itself.

Unlike other modalities, this type of trauma-work can be done with minimal talking and patients are not asked to share verbally (unless they find that helpful).  Ideal for any concern the patient finds "triggering", this technique can be very effective and produce relief so that trauma loses its power over the present.

I am excited to be able to offer this modality to clients in North Carolina and Virginia through a HIPPA compliant perinatal mental telehealth platform.

The brain has the power to heal from trauma so that you can live in the present where joy occurs.
