Joy Spring Mental Health

Imagine having a healthcare experience that was unrushed, where you were heard and understood, and your provider was committed to helping you truly be well.
Imagine having a space where you received more than service...you received care.
Comprehensive Assessments

You deserve a provider who will take the time to get to know you.
No more rushed appointments or diagnoses that aren't explained or don't feel accurate to your experience. I will take the time to thoroughly review what you have experienced in the past and what you are experiencing currently and the different treatment approaches available. Most importantly, you will be treated as a person-not a diagnosis!

Telehealth
You deserve a provider who will meet you where you are.
Wherever you are on your life's journey, you deserve support. Telehealth makes it easier than ever to connect without sacrificing the quality of your care.

Medication Management

You deserve a plan that is effective, safe, and tolerable-tailored to your unique needs.
Our goal with medication will be to avoid medication unless it is needed. If needed, we will use as few medications as possible to help you feel all the way well. We aren't interested in trading one problem for another. If you are having side effects or are not achieving the desired response, you will have a provider who listens and responds. You will understand what you are taking and why and the short-term and long-term plans for your medication.

Therapy
My therapy approach is to tailor the plan to each individual. Our work together will include skill building, trauma processing (if needed), and exploration of your values. Together we will create a path that enables you to live your best life, grow your relationships, and act with meaning and intention-even when you are faced with challenges and disappointments.
You deserve a safe space to develop the skills and knowledge you need to have a life that is meaningful and fulfilling.

Hi, I'm Heather
A Nurse Practitioner for people who are tired of traditional healthcare encounters and want to work with a provider who takes the time to know them, hears and understands their concerns, and empowers them to take control of their mental health with realistic and actionable tools and resources.
I work with clients who experience stress, overwhelm, and mental illness during early adulthood. I especially enjoy working with clients during the transitions to college and pregnancy and parenting and have additional training and certification with these populations.
Clients who enjoy working with me are ready to be well. They are committed to doing the work and they want to work with a provider who will have practical solutions that are tailored to their individual needs. They appreciate a direct and honest approach and a provider that is team-oriented and looks at the big picture to explain the what and why of each step of the plan. If you have ever had a negative experience receiving healthcare services, you are going to love how I do things differently. My patients aren't numbers and they aren't diagnoses. They are wonderful people (even if they don't feel like it or know it yet), who, like all of us, sometimes need someone to take care of them or help them take care of themselves. That's my job.
Depression, anxiety, irritability, mood swings, or general feelings of being overwhelmed, can lead to physical and emotional symptoms. These struggles affect self-confidence, relationships, and overall well-being.
I can help you better understand, not only why this happens, but what you can do to safely and effectively find your path to wellness with evidence-based medication management that is tailored to your unique needs.
Conditions I treat include depression, generalized anxiety, bipolar, OCD, social anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD. I do not prescribe controlled substances.
I offer longer appointments and comprehensive assessments so that we can take the time to create the best plan for you, including brief therapy interventions at every appointment.

You don't have to wait until a crisis to ask for help.
It is simply enough to think:
"I could use some help".

MEDICATION MANAGEMENT
The goal of medication management is to help you feel like yourself again! This means that you should be able to eat, sleep, work, play, and maintain your relationships in whatever way is meaningful to you AND enjoy these parts of your life. If this is something you haven't experienced, it is time you had the support you need. My goal is to find a plan where, with as few medications as possible, you can feel all the way well. I do not prescribe controlled substances and medication is only one aspect of a great care plan.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR COLLEGE MENTAL HEALTH
The young adult period is a time of firsts-gaining independence, living with roommates, forming intimate relationships, and developing skills that will translate to the workforce. It is also a time when many mental health conditions first manifest or exacerbate and there can be considerable challenges to accessing care. I can help you navigate these stressors and get started on the best path for long-term mental health success. I spent six years concentrating on college health and know how to help you navigate this period in your life.
Available virtually for patients in NC and VA.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR PREGNANCY
Many medications can be taken safely throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. In fact, for most medications, it is riskier (for mom and baby) for mom to experience mental distress than it is for them to take medication. I am certified in perinatal mental health and can work with you and your OB/GYN to make sure you have a plan that is safe and effective.
Available virtually for patients in NC and VA.
Taking care of your health
My platform is HIPPA compliant and easily accessed on desktop, laptop, tablet, and smart-phone devices.
I am an out-of-network provider. I will verify your out-of-network benefits, explain the cost of services, and assist you in filing so that you can receive the benefit of out-of-network coverage.
Seeking help requires courage. Let me alleviate common concerns about mental health care, medication, and therapy options.
